Navagio Beach at a glance
Navagio, also called Shipwreck Beach, is a cove on Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea. Tall rock walls close it in, a pale beach lies at their foot, and the rusting wreck of the Panagiotis rests on the stones. The wreck ran aground in 1980 or 1983, and the island tells the story of a smuggling ship. The beach was once called Agios Georgios, and "navagio" is simply the Greek word for shipwreck.
You reach the bay by sea. Landing on the beach and swimming in the bay are not allowed under the 2026 safety rules, and boats may enter only a marked sea zone for a short look. That is why most visitors book a boat trip, often combined with the Blue Caves, and why this guide starts with the rules and the tours before anything else.

A few things to know before you go
The points that decide how a Navagio visit works in 2026.
The beach is a view, not a stop
Landing and swimming in the Navagio bay are not allowed. Boats may not come within 50 m of the shoreline or anchor there, and swimming is banned inside the line between the two ends of the bay. A boat trip gives you a controlled look from the sea zone.
Access rules →Short time in the sea zone
A boat enters from the north, leaves to the south and stays up to 20 minutes. No more than 15 boats are in the zone at once. The rest of a trip goes to other stops, such as the Blue Caves, where swimming outside the Navagio waters depends on the route and the conditions.
Boat tours →The viewpoint depends on protective works
The existing platform above the bay may be used only after the safety works along the cliff edge are finished. Tour programs that list the viewpoint depend on that. Check the current status before you plan around it.
Viewpoint →Winter closure from 1 November 2026
The port authority's order for 2026 includes a closure of the bay from 1 November until a new joint decision. It does not reopen on its own. If you travel in the off-season, expect no regular boat visits to the bay.
Best time to visit →Trip length is not crossing time
Durations such as 2.5 hours or 6 hours cover the whole tour, not the ride to Navagio. Prices are operator prices for a boat trip. They are not an entrance fee.
Island tours →Navagio Beach: frequently asked questions
Can I visit Navagio Beach?
You can see it from a boat. Landing on the beach is not allowed in 2026, and boats may use only the marked sea zone. The access page explains the rules and the winter closure.
Can I swim at Navagio?
No. Swimming is banned inside the bay. Boat trips that mention swimming stop at other places, such as the Blue Caves, outside the Navagio waters.
How do I get to Navagio?
By boat from Agios Nikolaos, Skinari, Porto Vromi, Zakynthos Town or Alykes. A car can take you to the upper area near the cliff, but there is no road to the beach. See getting to Navagio.
How much does a Navagio boat tour cost?
Prices listed in 2026 start at €25 per person for a 2.5-hour Shipwreck and Blue Caves cruise from Agios Nikolaos and €30 from Skinari. Small rental boats at Porto Vromi start at €100 per group without a skipper and €140 with one. The boat tours page compares the options.
Is the Navagio viewpoint open?
The platform may be used only after the protective works along the cliff edge are finished. Check the current status locally and do not count on it. Read more on the viewpoint page.
Is navagio.org the official website?
No. This is an independent travel guide with no connection to the Municipality of Zakynthos, the Greek Ministry of Culture, Visit Greece or any tour operator, boat company or hotel.
