Where to stay in Zakynthos for a Navagio trip
Navagio is seen from the sea, so your base matters mainly for the harbour you start from. Boat trips leave from Porto Vromi in the west, from Agios Nikolaos in the north and from Zakynthos Town. Other resorts, such as Alykes, have local boat offers of their own.
This page names areas, not single hotels. It does not rank them by price or quality. A stay in the west does not mean a beach visit at Navagio, because landing and swimming in the bay are not allowed. If a boat trip is the aim, the Zakynthos boat tours page shows what each trip does.

Areas compared
What each area is known for and what that means for boat trips.
| Area | Known for | Boats and trips | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zakynthos Town | City sights and the harbour | Longer cruises start here | Navagio cruise listed at 6 hours |
| Laganas | Nightlife, bars and restaurants in the southern bay | Turtle trips in Laganas Bay | Turtle protection rules apply on nesting beaches |
| Tsilivi | Accommodation, restaurants and activities | – | Check services locally |
| Alykes | Resort with bars, restaurants and shops | Local Shipwreck and Blue Caves trips | Price on request, group of up to 7 |
| West, near Porto Vromi | Departure point for Navagio trips | Boat rental and trips from the harbour | Not a ticket to the beach |
For most visitors who plan one Navagio boat trip and want restaurants close by, Zakynthos Town or Alykes is a practical base. Choose Laganas if nightlife matters to you and you accept the turtle rules. Choose the west if you want a short way to the Porto Vromi harbour.

The areas in detail
Five bases, described by what they offer.
Zakynthos Town
The island capital is the starting point for city sights and for longer cruises. A cruise to Navagio is listed at 6 hours and a trip around the island at 8 hours. The Solomos Square is the central square, and the hill of Bochali with its Venetian castle rises above the town.
Things to do in Zakynthos →Laganas
The southern bay is known for nightlife, bars and restaurants. The beaches nearby are nesting beaches of the loggerhead turtle, so the protection rules apply. Entry is allowed from 7 a.m. to sunset, and the island of Marathonisi lies in the same bay.
Turtles and Laganas Bay →Tsilivi
Tsilivi is a developed tourist area with accommodation, restaurants and activities. Check what is nearby for your dates.
Alykes
A resort with bars, restaurants and shops. Local boat rental offers a Shipwreck and Blue Caves trip for groups of up to 7, with the price on request.
Blue Caves guide →The west
Porto Vromi is a departure point, and the meeting point of one boat rental is called Anafonitria Porto Vromi. The monastery of Anafonitria is in the same part of the island. Choose this area for the harbour, not for a beach at Navagio.
The climate resilience fee on your stay
A per-unit fee on hotels and rentals, with 2026 rates.
Greek accommodation charges a daily climate resilience fee. It is counted per room, apartment or unit and per day, not per guest. The guest pays it, you get a separate receipt, and it is collected at the end of the stay, before departure. If your stay crosses from October into November, the two months have separate receipts at the two rates.
| Accommodation | April to October, per unit and day | November to March, per unit and day |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel, 1 to 2 stars | €2.00 | €0.50 |
| Hotel, 3 stars | €5.00 | €1.50 |
| Hotel, 4 stars | €10.00 | €3.00 |
| Hotel, 5 stars | €15.00 | €4.00 |
| Registered furnished rooms and apartments | €2.00 | €0.50 |
| Ordinary short-term rental | €8.00 | €2.00 |
| Short-term single-family house over 80 m² | €15.00 | €4.00 |
| Furnished tourist villa | €15.00 | €4.00 |
| Furnished holiday home under 80 m² | €8.00 | €2.00 |
| Furnished holiday home from 80 m² | €15.00 | €4.00 |
The rates above apply in 2026 on top of the room price. A family of four in one hotel room pays the unit rate once per day, not four times. For two nights in a 3-star hotel in summer, the fee is €10 in total.

Where to stay in Zakynthos: frequently asked questions
Which area suits a Navagio trip?
There is no single right area. Boat trips leave from Porto Vromi, Agios Nikolaos and Zakynthos Town, and local trips also start in resorts such as Alykes. Pick the harbour that suits your plan, then add the evenings you want.
Can I stay at Navagio?
Not on the beach itself. Navagio is seen from a boat, and landing on the beach and swimming in the bay are not allowed.
Is Laganas a good base?
It suits visitors who want nightlife, bars and restaurants. Turtles nest on the beaches around the bay, so the protection rules apply, including no entry between sunset and 7 a.m. on nesting beaches.
What is the climate resilience fee?
A daily fee per room or unit, from €0.50 to €15 depending on the type of stay and the season. The guest pays it at the end of the stay and gets a separate receipt.
Is the fee charged per person?
No. It is counted per accommodation unit and day, so the number of guests in the room does not change it.
Is this the official Zakynthos or Navagio website?
No. This is an independent travel guide. It is not the official site of Navagio, the Municipality of Zakynthos, the Greek Ministry of Culture or Visit Greece, and it is not connected to any tour operator, boat company or hotel.
