The short answer
For warm, dry weather and a boat trip along the coast, aim for June to September. Highs are 27.6°C to 30.7°C in those months, and rainfall stays between 5 and 25 mm. May is a milder alternative with 23.4°C and 17 mm of rain. October is still mild at 23.0°C but averages 147 mm of rain.
The best time to visit Zakynthos is a matter of preference, not a ranking. Heat lovers choose July and August. Visitors who prefer cooler days choose May or September. If you want to see Navagio from the water, the timing also depends on the rules for the bay, set out below. The Zakynthos boat tours page shows what the trips do there.

Season by season
Long-term monthly averages for Zakynthos, not a forecast for 2026.
| Season | Average high | Average rainfall per month | What it means for a visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winter, December to March | 14.4°C to 16.1°C | 90 to 170 mm | Cool and wet. No boat view of the Navagio bay. |
| Spring, April and May | 18.9°C and 23.4°C | 51 mm and 17 mm | Warming up. May suits sightseeing and walks. |
| Early summer, June | 27.8°C | 7 mm | Warm and dry. The 2026 viewing hours for boats start on 15 June. |
| High summer, July and August | 30.7°C and 30.6°C | 5 mm and 9 mm | Hottest and driest. Longest viewing hours, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. until 15 September. |
| Early autumn, September | 27.6°C | 25 mm | Still warm. Viewing hours shorten from 16 September. |
| Late autumn, October and November | 23.0°C and 19.0°C | 147 mm and 159 mm | Mild but wet. The bay is closed to boats from November 2026. |
For most visitors who want both beach weather and a boat trip, June or September is the practical choice: warm, dry and inside the boat viewing hours. If you must travel in July or August, book the boat early in the stay so wind or swell does not use up your only day.

Navagio by boat: the season
What the rules say for 2026.
15 June to 15 September
Boats may enter the marked sea zone off Navagio between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. They come in from the north, leave in the south and stay up to 20 minutes. No more than 15 boats are in the zone at once, and until 3:30 p.m. ten of those places go to tourist passenger boats.
16 September to the end of the season
The hours shorten to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The other rules stay the same: a marked zone, up to 20 minutes, and no approach or anchoring within 50 m of the shoreline.
A viewing window is not a departure
The hours say when boats may be in the zone, not that a boat leaves every day. Wind and sea decide, and the skipper makes the call. Landing on the beach and swimming in the bay are not allowed in any month.
Is Navagio open? →Navagio in winter
The bay closes after the season.
From November 2026 the harbour authority bans ordinary boat traffic, approach, anchoring and swimming inside the bay until a new joint ministerial decision. Exceptions cover emergencies and certain official checks. Do not plan on the bay reopening automatically in spring. Dates for the next season depend on new decisions, so check the current rules shortly before you book.
The viewpoint above the bay is a separate question. Looking down from the existing platform is allowed only after protective works are finished, and opening on a given day is not certain. See the Navagio viewpoint page.
In the cold months, other parts of the island still make a trip: the old town, the coast and the caves that boats reach from other harbours. The things to do in Zakynthos page lists them.
