How to get to Navagio Beach

Navagio sits on the north-west coast of Zakynthos, below tall rock walls. The beach itself is reached from the sea. There is no road to the sand, and landing on the beach is not allowed under the 2026 rules. What you can do is look at the bay from a boat in a defined sea zone, or from the viewing platform above it if the platform is open.

That gives you two kinds of trip. A boat trip leaves from one of several ports and passes the bay. A car or an island tour takes you to the upper area on land. They are different journeys, and the length of a boat tour is the whole tour, not the crossing time. If you want to compare products, start with our page on Zakynthos boat tours.

For most visitors, the Shipwreck and Blue Caves cruise from the north is the simplest plan: it is sold per person and shows both the bay and the caves. A rental suits a group that wants its own timing and is comfortable at sea.

Getting there by boat, step by step

1. Choose your port

Agios Nikolaos and the Skinari area lie in the north, Porto Vromi near Anafonitria in the north-west. Zakynthos town trips are sold as 6 and 8 hour tours.

2. Confirm the meeting point

The Porto Vromi rental names its meeting point as Anafonitria Porto Vromi. Confirm the exact pier with the operator before you drive there.

3. Pick a morning departure

The sea zone is open from 15 June to 15 September 2026 between 08:00 and 21:00, and from 16 September to 31 October 2026 between 08:00 and 19:00. One operator at Skinari advertises departures about every 15 minutes between 09:00 and 18:00. The skipper decides on weather and swell, so no departure is guaranteed.

4. Know what the trip does at the bay

The boat enters the zone in the north and leaves in the south, with a stay of up to 20 minutes. At most 15 boats are in the zone at once. There is no landing, and swimming in the bay is not allowed. Swim stops happen elsewhere on the route.

Boats in the Porto Vromi inlet

By car and from the viewpoint

A rental car or an island tour brings you to the upper area in the north-west, near Anafonitria and the monastery of Agios Georgios Krimnon. This is a trip to the cliff top, not to the beach. It does not replace a boat, because you do not reach the water.

The viewing platform is the only upper position the 2026 rules name, and it can be used only after the protective works. Ask your operator or the local authority whether it is open on your date, and check the road and parking situation before you drive. Do not walk along the cliff edge for a better photo. Read more on the page about the Navagio viewpoint.

If you travel without a car, an island tour or a boat trip is the plan you can book ahead. The airport page covers how to reach the north from Zakynthos airport.

Winter and the end of the season

The access question changes in November.

From 1 November 2026 until a new joint ministerial decision, the harbour authority prohibits ordinary boat traffic, approach, anchoring and bathing inside the bay. Only emergencies and certain official checks are exempt. Nothing reopens by itself on a fixed date, so do not build a winter trip around a boat visit to the bay. Getting to Navagio Beach: frequently asked questions

Can I drive to Navagio Beach?

No. The beach is reached from the sea. A car takes you to the upper area in the north-west, where the viewing platform is. The rules allow looking from the platform once the protective works are finished, so check the current situation before you go.

Where do the boats to Navagio leave from?

From Agios Nikolaos and the Skinari area in the north, from Porto Vromi near Anafonitria in the north-west, from Zakynthos town, and from Alykes and Alykanas. Confirm the meeting point with the operator.

How long does the boat ride to the bay take?

The times given are whole tours, for example 2.5 hours from Agios Nikolaos and 6 hours from Zakynthos town. They include the stop at the bay and the caves, so they are not a one-way crossing time.

Can I get off the boat at the beach?

No. Landing on the beach and swimming in the bay are not allowed. Boats stay in the defined sea zone for up to 20 minutes.

Do boats run in winter?

From 1 November 2026, ordinary boat traffic into the bay is prohibited until a new joint ministerial decision. Do not expect an automatic reopening.

Is navagio.org the official website of Navagio or a boat company?

No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the municipality of Zakynthos, a ministry, a boat company or a tour operator.
